Well, we’re a bit behind in getting this month’s newsletter out. We’ve been in New Zealand the last couple of weeks and essentially living off the grid. We’ve been surprised by how difficult it is to find a good Internet connection! Really setting up a good track record for ourselves, but we’re hoping to get back on track next month. We’ll see how that works out! In February, we visited Vietnam, Singapore, Australia, and kicked off our campervan trip in New Zealand. The first half of the month was relatively fast paced, while the second half was a bit slower and more relaxed. We didn’t hop around as much, and we spent some extended time (for us, at least) in the cities we visited. We haven’t published our Australia blog, but hoping to get it done soon. A few reflections from the last month: 🚘 Driving on the left is easy, walking on the left not so much — Our first attempt at driving on the left side of the road in Melbourne was generally a success. Only a few mishaps, including one or two turns onto the wrong side and forgetting to look right for oncoming traffic before entering a traffic circle. That said, we found it much easier to get the hang of driving on the left versus walking on the left. Walking on the right is so ingrained in us from a young age - passing in school hallways, walking on the sidewalk, everything. This habit has definitely resulted in a number of “ope!” moments. Even when we do get it right, the other tourists tend to screw it up! 🍜 We need to (literally) trust our gut — As we mentioned in our January newsletter, one of our least favorite things is bad food. It feels like a wasted opportunity! We’ve had a few bad meals, and usually, they’re a result of us not taking the time to engage all of our senses before landing on a place to eat. We need to trust our gut! Reviews, blogs, and recommendations can only go so far. Sometimes things change (e.g., staff, ownership), which can impact the quality. We’ve found that most of the time, if we would have simply slowed down and engaged all of our senses, we could have made better decisions. We’re also learning that this is not only for food, but places to stay, things to do, people to talk to, etc. 👩🏻❤️👨🏽 For the last year or two, we haven’t focused on our relationship as much as we should have — Over the last month, we’ve taken time to connect with each other in ways we haven’t reserved time for as a result of our hectic, on-the-go lives. Between work, school, friends, and family, we had a lot of burners going at the same time, constantly working together to keep those burners going, but rarely taking time to focus on perhaps the most important one — us. While we recognize these are excuses, we’re grateful to have come to this realization and have the opportunity to spend every day catching up for lost time.
